S Jordan Toles’ 2022 player profile

Going into the 2022 football season, LSU Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Tigers roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Brian Kelly this season.

We circle back to the secondary in this one to take a look at an upperclassman who will look to fight for a starting spot at one of the safety positions this fall in Jordan Toles, a junior who appeared in six games as a sophomore last season.

Depth Chart Overview

Toles was a fairly high-profile recruit when he arrived on campus coming in as a top-100 recruit in the 2020 recruiting class. He appeared in eight games as a true freshman but had minimal production, totaling just four tackles.

His production improved as a sophomore by a bit, but he only appeared in six games in 2021 after spending some time away from the team. He returned later in the season, but his last action came in October.

Entering his junior season, Toles will look to finally live up to his recruiting pedigree. However, seeing the field won’t come easy, even in a secondary with a number of question marks. The Tigers added a transfer safety with starting experience in Joe Foucha, and Toles will likely begin the season coming off the bench.

He did, however, reportedly see some work at boundary corner in spring, meaning he could be an option there with LSU’s lack of depth at the position.
