Tennis legend Chris Evert shares strong words about Iga Swiatek

Former 18-time Grand Slam Chris Evert was absolutely impressed by the level of tennis Iga Swiatek showed in the Stuttgart final versus Aryna Sabalenka. Swiatek, seeded at No. 1, gave absolutely no chance to third-seeded Sabalenka as she claimed a dominant 6-2 6-2 win.

It was Swiatek’s 23rd consecutive win and she has now won four titles in a row.

Swiatek hasn’t lost a match since February as she has claimed victories in Doha, Indian Wells, Miami and now Stuttgart. The transition from hard to clay wasn’t a problem for Swiatek, who delivered a strong week of tennis in Stuttgart.

. Evert, a tennis legend, called Swiatek “dominant” and “an incredible talent.” “Wow! @iga_swiatek is on a mission… She is dominating women’s tennis; fourth tournament win in a row…pulling away from the pack of incredible talent,” Evert wrote on Twitter.

Swiatek dominated Sabalenka

Swiatek saved a break point in the opening game of the match, before she broke Sabalenka in the following game to take a 2-0 lead.

Sabalenka had a chance to get the break back but she missed out on a break point in the fifth game as Swiatek took a 4-1 lead. Sabalenka paid the price for blowing a break point as Swiatek broke the Belarusian again in the eighth game to seal the first set.

After winning the first set, Swiatek had two break points in the second game of the second set but Sabalenka saved those break point chances. The two players were tied at 2-2 in the second set, before Swiatek claimed back-to-back breaks and won four games in a row to seal a straight-set win.

Swiatek, who captured her maiden Grand Slam title at the 2020 French Open, is hoping to win her second Grand Slam at Roland Garros this year. “It’s just more fun for me to play on clay, and I always have that extra motivation before Roland Garros, so I’m pretty sure it’s going to happen also this year, and I’m just gonna be working hard. But the results we are going to see. I can’t promise anything,” Swiatek said.
